Privacy Policy

Cupbook is a coffee journal: you log and rate the coffees you drink. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version: we collect only what the journal needs to work, we don't sell your data, and there are no ads.
What we collect
- Account — your email address (or the identifier provided by Sign in with Apple / Google Sign-In) and a display name if you set one.
- Your journal — the check-ins you create: ratings, tasting notes, and brew details. Check-ins carry no photos: Cupbook does not store user photos at all.
- Scan photos — when you scan a coffee bag, the label is first read on your device; for coffees already in the catalog, the photo never leaves your phone. Only when that fails is the photo sent to our server to recognize the label. Either way it is used solely for that one recognition and never stored.
- Catalog contributions — coffees you add to the shared catalog are visible to other users.
- Usage & diagnostics — anonymous usage events (for example, that a scan or a check-in happened) and crash reports, to keep the app working and improve it. These are not linked to your identity and contain no journal content.
Where it lives
Your data is stored with Google Firebase (Google Cloud). Label recognition uses Anthropic's Claude API: the scan photo is processed to read the label and is not used to train AI models. These providers act as processors on our behalf; we don't share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.
What other users see
Your check-ins are private to your account. Community ratings shown on a coffee are anonymous aggregates. Coffees you add to the catalog are public but are not attributed to you by name.
Deleting your data
If you've already uninstalled the app, you can still request deletion by email — see Delete your account for both routes and exactly what is removed.
Children
Cupbook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the current version will always be at this address, with the effective date above.
